Welcome to
the North Coast

In the U.S., the East and West Coasts are sources of pride for the people who live there. They provide an identity. They drive the economy. They support jobs, provide recreation and a way of life.

Cleveland’s North Coast is our most stunning natural treasure. Our community’s proximity to Lake Erie is unique. Today, the waterfront generates jobs, entertainment and pride in our city.

But only for those who can get there.

We can bridge
the divide

Many Clevelanders have not experienced the shores—or sunsets—of our Great Lake. There’s no safe, universally accessible or convenient way to cross the railroad tracks, roads and other physical and social barriers that stand in the way.

Aside from the physical obstacles, racial and economic injustices exclude many of our residents from the lakefront—even if they live just blocks away.

With your input, we can change that.

Since 2022, the City of Cleveland and its partners have surveyed more than 5,000 people in order to develop a plan for redeveloping a lakefront area for all Clevelanders. The resulting North Coast Master Plan is the guiding vision for Cleveland’s lakefront transformation, laying the foundation for a more connected, inclusive and vibrant lakefront area. The plan encompasses a host of strategic initiatives aimed at improving access, boosting economic development and promoting environmental stewardship along the shores of Lake Erie.

The North Coast Connector is a proposed land bridge connecting the grassy lawns of Mall C and City Hall to the lakefront. It would span over the railroad tracks and the Shoreway to restore access and repair more than a century-old divide. It would open up new land for community gatherings and future economic development.

These initiatives are just two parts of one North Coast—one that ensures racial equity, economic opportunity and climate resiliency.

Your ideas will get everyone there.

Everyone can help create a shared blueprint that reflects the diverse needs and aspirations of our community. We want to hear from as many people as possible to ensure that the revitalized waterfront becomes a true source of pride and opportunity for all Clevelanders.
